Sizing and Styling Your Cushions

Size matters! We know it can be a little tricky to select the right size and combination of cushions, so to go alongside our cushion launch we’ve put together a super simple guide to cushion sizing and styling for every piece of furniture. We hope it helps!

Single Bed

For a single bed we’d suggest one 45cm square cushion in the centre of the bed or, if you like to mix and match your cushion shapes, why not try a 40-45cm square cushion at the back, with a smaller rectangular one at the front?

All Other Beds

We like the symmetrical look, so on a double or queen-size bed, we start with two 50cm square cushions at the back, then layer two 45cm cushions and, finally, place one smaller rectangle cushion at the very front. If you’re styling a king size bed, just add a third large cushion to the back row and space all of your cushions evenly. (If you’re not a fan of too many cushions, the rectangle one at the front isn’t essential!)

Chairs

Adorn more dainty armchairs with one rectangular cushion right in the middle and karate chop! With a more solid armchair, opt for a larger square cushion.

Sofas

When arranging your sofa cushions, start with two large 50cm cushions towards each end of the sofa, before adding a 50cm or a 45cm cushion in front of each. With our cushion collection, we’ve created 50cm cushions in every design so you can experiment with which cushion goes at the front and switch it up whenever you like! Or, if you like various sizes of cushion, why not try two large cushions at the back with two smaller, rectangular ones in front?

If you’ve got an L-shaped sofa, start with three large cushions at the back (one at either end of the sofa and one in the corner of the L). Next, add three smaller square cushions in front of each of these. And finally, play around with some smaller rectangular cushions in front of one or two of these arrangements. We love the look of one of these in the corner of the L, and maybe even an extra one at the end of the sofa!

Kitchen Nooks

We’re obsessed with kitchen nooks at the moment, especially ones with cosy corners and comfy cushions. In each corner of your nook, layer a large square cushion at the back, with your choice of a smaller square or rectangular cushion in front on both sides.

Benches

And finally, for that small bench in your hallway or at the foot of your bed, simply add two rectangular cushions slightly off centre.

Top tips: For perfectly plump cushions always buy an inner at least one size bigger than your cushion cover. We like to go for inners that are two sizes bigger for extra puffy cushions! We’ve found the simplest way to insert your inners is to fold them in half like a taco, place them in the centre of your cover, then allow them to open and stretch out the corners to meet each cover corner - we’ll do an Instagram video as this is easier than it sounds!
