5 Tips for a New Year, New Home Refresh

The Christmas festivities are over for another year and, sadly, it’s time to take down the decorations. But, instead of putting your home back to exactly how it was, how about a little house refresh? The New Year is the perfect time to be rid of the old and try something new. Here’s a few simple, inexpensive alterations you can make to refresh your space and create a home you love…

1. Strategically Undecorate

It can be a bit sad packing away all the Christmas decorations. Depending on how many you have, it can feel like a huge chore. By creating a smart storage system, you’ll make this a faster, more manageable job; plus, it’ll be easier to unbox everything again next year! Find some large, durable boxes or wicker baskets, some decoration organisers and a few mini chalk board labels to keep everything orderly and easy to find.

2. Declutter & Reorganise

If Santa spoilt you and your family this Christmas, you might be wondering where you’re going to put everything. Start by having a little clear out and rehome items that you’re unlikely to love again. Why not donate to a local charity shop and give the items a second life? Then, once you’ve narrowed down your ‘keep’ pile, it’s time take a look at storage solutions. We love these Scandiborn jelly baskets for kids’ storage.

3. Reshuffle Your Accessories

We often make a New Year’s resolution to start saving for something big, or just to generally be more penny-wise. A home refresh doesn’t have to be super expensive; you can create something that feels new whilst working with your existing pieces. Try swapping around the cushions, accessories and artwork in your home. Have a play with the colours and textures in each room to inject a new lease of life into your space.

4. Scout The Sales

You can get fantastic deals on larger furniture items like beds and sofas, as well as smaller pieces of décor and accessories this time of year. A new vase or throw might be just what you need to freshen up your space. Amara and Anthropologie are two of our favourite sites for accessories.

5. Add Some New Life

Over Christmas, we add all sorts of fresh foliage to our homes; from Christmas trees to table centrepieces and wreaths, and we don’t have to give up on this after the festive season. Pick up a bunch of flowers, or, if you had a eucalyptus wreath for Christmas, you could pull out a few stems and pop them in a vase to dry.
